Xiaomi Sued by Coolpad Over Infringement of Three Patents
Xiaomi, despite ranking fourth in terms of market place-share, was the fastest growing Chinese smartphone brand last twelvemonth, but its ambitious strides might be hindered by legal troubles. Coolpad's almost prominent subsidiary – Yulong Computer Communications Technology (Shenzhen) Co. Ltd – has reportedly sued Xiaomi and three of its subsidiaries for violation of iii patents.
Coolpad has alleged that Xiaomi has misused these three patents which are related to organization UI, app notifications, and icon management. It is clear that Coolpad is targetting Xiaomi's custom firmware MIUI which powers all of the Xiaomi devices. Coolpad has alleged that Xiaomi has produced, marketed, and sold products which were violating these three patents and that has resulted in huge fiscal losses for Coolpad's subsidiary.
The three subsidiaries roped into the infringement case include Xiaomi Engineering science Co. Ltd., Shenzhen Tongtianda Electronics Co. Ltd., and the offset branch of Xiaomi Co. Ltd. Shenzhen. Besides Xiaomi, the company plans to sue each one of the several companies that have stolen over 10,000 patents which are owned past Coolpad and its sister companies.
As per the legal document filed by Coolpad with the Guangdong Province Intermediate People'southward Court in Communist china, the violated patents are described as following:
- Patent No. ZL200610034034.8 – "Mobile communication last synergistic method and interface organisation thereof"
- Patent No. ZL201210250264.iii – "Terminal and processing method for new outcome of application program"
- Patent No. ZL201210064396.7 – "Last and application icons management method"
Coolpad has now appealed to the courtroom to stop production, marketing, and sale of Xiaomi products based on the infringement of the erstwhile'due south patents and hassought settlement for the financial losses incurred past information technology based on the profits earned by Xiaomi. Coolpad too demands compensation for its legal fees as well as the damages in return of the total expenses of the litigation.
